Opening Sunflower Elementary School’s Signature Outdoor Classroom
Students, faculty, administrators, Board of Education and the community members gathered this month to officially cut the ribbon on this year’s Learnscape at Shawnee Mission School District’s Sunflower Elementary School.
Last year, I got to participate in the charrette at Hollis + Miller. I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep the night before. And now all our dreams have become a reality. Thank you so much to everyone at Hollis + Miller!”
– Maya Lance, 4th grade student
Teachers and students couldn’t wait to get out and put Learnscape to use. Classes studied solar energy, social studies and conducted writing workshops inspired by the fall colors and weather. Hollis + Miller is excited to see how Sunflower Elementary’s teachers and students continue to utilize Learnscape for all types of learning opportunities.
This new outdoor classroom will undoubtedly inspire students to develop project-based learning challenges that will positively impact their school and community.
