Staley High School

  • North Kansas City School District
  • Addition & Renovation
  • $18 million
  • 52,000 SF Additions, 16,000 SF Renovations

Originally designed from the ground up by Hollis + Miller in 2009, Staley High School recently brought the team back on to design two major additions for academics and athletics.

Additions to opposite ends of the existing school building support the growth of the student population and a need for innovative learning spaces. The new academic wing provides the necessary resources for the district’s Pathways Programs, including the School of Design Innovation & Technology, School of Health Science & Services and School of Business, Leadership & Entrepreneurship. The neighborhood design concept for each level features a central collaboration space, active corridors, small breakout spaces for group work, and on the lower level, a large outdoor classroom space.

The athletics addition includes a new auxiliary gym with a hybrid turf and gym floor, a new team room, weight room and locker rooms. The existing outdated locker rows in the center of the building were transformed into a large commons area and business development space designed to reflect a modern professional environment.
