Hollis + Miller awarded for work on Lenexa City Center Library

Lenexa City Center Library award

Kansas City, Mo. – Hollis + Miller is proud to announce it has been named one of the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) West North Central region’s 2020 Community Leadership Award recipients. The firm was honored for its work on the new Lenexa City Center Library, which received the USGBC Award of Merit in the Innovative Design, New Construction category.

Hollis + Miller is among 18 organizations and individuals celebrated for exemplary work and commitment to creating sustainable, high-performing and healthy spaces.

“Located in the heart of Lenexa’s contemporary city center, this new library is helping establish a new downtown for the city,” said John Southard, HMA Partner and President. “We were honored to be involved with this key piece of the development and proud to receive this award from the USGBC.”

Adjacent to a city hall, community center, restaurants and public market, the new Lenexa library welcomes all members of the community. To achieve total flexibility, the majority of the library is an open loft-like space housing the adult, teen and juvenile collections on two levels. A two-story atrium serves as the living room for the community, and three large flexible meeting spaces and four smaller meeting spaces can be used by both library staff and community members and will provide access to technology for community groups, tutoring and collaborative discussions.

“These awards spotlight incredible leaders from across the region who are committed to building healthier, more resilient and sustainable communities through the adoption of LEED and green building practices,” said Korinne Haeffel, director of USGBC Wisconsin. “Green buildings are helping to raise the living standard for all while also helping to save money through more efficient design, construction and operations. It’s an honor to recognize this year’s awardees and we look forward to work this inspires in the months and years ahead.”

The 2020 Community Leadership Awards represent green building projects and experts from across local USGBC communities, including Central Plains, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri Gateway, Nebraska Flatwater, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
