Athletic Club: A Focus On Wellness
Hollis + Miller Architects believes that if we grow the individual, we will grow the firm. This philosophy goes beyond our team members’ professional growth and success; it’s about our individuals’ overall health and well-being. With this in mind, the Hollis + Miller Athletic Club was officially founded in 2014 as a way to continue to expand on our wellness efforts.
The Athletic Club leads two major activities for the firm each year: KC Corporate Challenge and our KC Architectural Softball League team, in addition to many other smaller activities.
Getting Involved in the Community
KC Corporate Challenge kicks off this month and marks the fifth year Hollis + Miller has participated. We got involved in this city-wide competition as a way to not only give back to and get involved in the community, but as an opportunity for our team to get out of the office and compete as a team. In our day-to-day activities at the office, it’s easy to forget to get outside your studio and get to know more of your team members. Lifelong friendships and connections have been made on the field.
A Little Friendly Competition Among Architects
Hollis + Miller has been participating in the KC Architectural Softball League for over a decade now. Our team enjoys getting out of the office and getting involved in a little friendly competition with our local architectural colleagues. Softball runs weekly from May to September, culminating in a tournament at the end of the season. Team members don’t have to commit to participating in the entire season, so it’s a fun low-pressure, low-commitment chance to hit the field a couple times a year or more, depending on your interest level.
Ultimately, the goal of Athletic Club is a simple one: Give our team members opportunities to stay active, get outside, and focus on their well-being. With that goal in mind, Athletic Club is always looking for new exciting activities to get involved in. In years past, Hollis + Miller has participated in kickball leagues and volleyball tournaments, to name a couple. Athletic Club’s leadership also loves to hear suggestions from our team members. Some of our favorite activities have come from team member ideas. All the events are completely on a volunteer basis because at the end of the day, it’s about having fun!
