Community comes first at Hollis + Miller Architects.
Our Hollis + Miller family is driven by our purpose: to empower our team, our clients and communities through rewarding experiences and inspiring learning environments. This starts internally, by inspiring and empowering our team members to seek out opportunities to explore their passions.
We believe whole-heartedly that if you grow the individual, you’ll grow the firm. What this means for our team members is that we are committed to investing in our employees because their growth and success will lead to Hollis + Miller’s growth and success. We encourage this through a number of initiatives that are designed to provide opportunities for mentorship and professional development.
Each of our studios is integrated, meaning architects, interior designers, structural engineers and graphic designers sit and work together on a daily basis. This is part of our co-creation process. Working this way, we not only design smarter, but it also allows our team members to grow professionally.
Growing the individual goes beyond the professional at Hollis + Miller. We understand that team members need to be happy and well to be successful in the workplace. Because of this, we have established several initiatives with wellness of the mind and body in mind, which involve activities for socialization, athletics, wellness, and community involvement.

Wellness is top-of-mind at Hollis + Miller – the wellness of the learners in the spaces we design and the wellness of our team. Our Athletic Club is a chance for our team members to get together and work up a sweat competing against our community peers. After all, community and activity are at the center of wellness.
Hollis + Miller
Giving back to our community is a huge part of Hollis + Miller’s purpose. The Hollis + Miller Foundation coordinates regular volunteer opportunities and donation drives. There’s something for everyone – serving dinner at Ronald McDonald House, working in the 18th & Broadway Community Garden, and coordinating a donation drive for school children, to name a few.
We’ve got a lot of innovators around here, but we know we keep them pretty busy. They’re full of wonderful ideas, though. So, once a year we shut down the office and give everyone time to work on their ideas. Then, at the end the day we share with each other. Oh, and we throw a party.
At Hollis + Miller, we are lifelong learners. designU was born out of a team member suggestion for more internal learning opportunities and has grown into quarterly events where we learn from each other and outside sources about design and innovations in education.
We looked at Innovation Day and thought to ourselves: What would happen if we took one team member off everything for four months and let me them chase an industry-changing idea they’re passionate about? The results have been mind-blowingly awesome.
Every Friday, we gather as a family in the kitchen for breakfast. And we’re not just talking about some doughnuts – we’re talking pastries, fruit, eggs, bacon, pancakes, basically a full-on smorgasbord. The best part about is catching up with your office friends you don’t get a chance to talk to during the week.
